Who wants to be a site admin?
Posted by: | Comments
If any loyal readers of Scrutiny Hooligans have experience with WordPress back-end maintenance (including upgrades) as well as some experience with mySQL databases and PHP, not to mention a passion for politics (particularly local) and a desire to say what’s on your mind from time to time, we may want to have a word with you. We’re looking for someone to help keep the site running on a day-to-day basis, and if you’re interested in becoming the next “Admin Hooligan”, drop us a line via the contact form…
Sunday Morning Music – Fireworks
Posted by: | CommentsAfter a night of celebrating our country’s independence by blowing up small portions of it and avoiding being detected by the circling airplane (or was it a black helicopter?), it’s time to get yr goth on!!! with Siouxsie and the Banshees!
The Return of Ol’ Lumpy – Charles Taylor on WCQS
Posted by: | CommentsThe notoriously press-wary Disgraced Former Congressman Charles Taylor was interviewed (by phone – why leave your mansion on the hill when you don’t have to?) by WCQS‘ Steve Plever, where he sounds as if the last eight and a half years never happened and quotes Ronald Reagan as if the last thirty years never happened. You can normally listen to WCQS’ local stories here, but until they fix the typo in the M3U file, click below to listen.
Interesting timing on Taylor’s part, granting an interview where he states that he hasn’t “thought about the election as a candidate” shortly after Congressman Heath Shuler emphatically denied that he was running for Senate. If this does indicate a political comeback on his part, at least bitching about Nancy Pelosi and Shuler’s voting “for the unis… to, uh… have, um, dictoral elections without… the right… the right of, a, a… ballot…” is a safe and non-controversial way to do it.
radio arratik – attempt #2

Tonight, on a very special episode of radio arratik, no one hugs and no one learns anything. Plus, an exclusive world premiere of a new mashup remix, some new stuff by Venetian Snares and Prefuse 73, self-oscillating delay pedals, weird spoken word records and some other stuff. Tune in and join the fun!

radio arratik

(Originally left as a comment on Friday, and promoted because I’m an admin. Nerr.)
Hooligans: if you have a decent-enough internet connection that can handle a 128kbps 44.1MHz audio stream (in other words, if you’re not a MAIN subscriber), be sure to tune in Monday night at 9:00 PM to the premiere of my weekly webcast, aptly named “radio arratik”.
Part radio show, part DJ set, part live performance, part audio torture chamber, I can guarantee that you’ll hear things that you won’t hear on the radio in Asheville, let alone most of the world. You might even hear things that you probably shouldn’t hear, period. There will even be an IRC channel available if you want to air your grievances in real time. Be sure to join the fun!
This week, in honor of the big Day in the Life of Asheville event, I’m going to be playing some of the photos that I took on Friday, among other things. Yes, you read that right.

Sunday Morning Music – Brian Eno
Posted by: | CommentsAn excerpt from one of my favorite pieces of music ever – “1/1″, from 1978’s Ambient 1: Music for Airports.
(Greetings from Bruegger’s, where I’m trying to catch up on e-mails and stuff. Yes, for the low, low price of $35 a month, you too will have to go to a local business and mooch their free wi-fi at least three days a week because MAIN’s signal keeps going out for days at a time whenever a homeless person sneezes 300 feet away from their tower or a cloud passes by. They suck.)
