The TED Talk You Weren’t Supposed To See

By

So says Adam Mordecai:

Nick Hanauer, self-described “super-rich” entrepreneur, gave a pretty compelling TED Talk about how the middle class—not the super-rich—are the real job creators. But TED, which has released over 100 different political videos in the past, thought this one was too partisan and chose not to release it.

Under pressure, they eventually did. Here it is anyway. Enjoy.

  1. Money quote:

It’s a small jump from job creator to the creator. This language was not chosen by accident. And it’s only honest to admit that when somebody like me calls themselves a job creator, we’re not just describing how the economy works but more particularly, we’re making a claim on status and privileges we deserve.

I did a post on this yesterday, TED and the Question of “Job Creators” as “The Creator”, http://civiltongue.com/2012/05/18/ted-and-the-question-of-job-creators-as-the-creator/.

    TED’s elitism is showing.

The reasoning behind why the video was not chosen is more telling than the fact that it wasn’t chosen.
