Jimmy Carter likes The Gays

Because we haven’t really been Gay around here enough lately (and with Gordon all busy with boring City Council stuff) I thought I’d post this tidbit from former President and devout Baptist Jimmy Carter:
“Homosexuality was well known in the ancient world, well before Christ was born and Jesus never said a word about homosexuality. In all of his teachings about multiple things -– he never said that gay people should be condemned. I personally think it is very fine for gay people to be married in civil ceremonies. I draw the line, maybe arbitrarily, in requiring by law that churches must marry people. I’m a Baptist, and I believe that each congregation is autonomous and can govern its own affairs. So if a local Baptist church wants to accept gay members on an equal basis, which my church does by the way, then that is fine. If a church decides not to, then government laws shouldn’t require them to.” — Jimmy Carter.
Where oh where are the Democratic candidates for County Commission on The Gays? I’ve asked the question but only Holly Jones, Brownie Newman, Ellen Frost, Terry Van Duyn and Aixa Wilson have bothered to answer me. Chairman Gantt? Tracey DeBruhl? Keith Young? Carol Weir Peterson? JoAnne Morgan? Randy Flack? Michelle Pace Wood? Bueller? Bueller? Anyone? Anyone?
Feel free to answer over here. But don’t take too long! We have Amendments to defeat! Thank you in advance for your answers.

Watch how often believers in nominally Christian America reference Jesus. Except when the Saviour’s New Testament teachings about loving your neighbor, caring for the poor, rendering unto Caesar and turning the other cheek make them feel like Christ is too soft on personal responsibility or too left on social issues. Then – hoping for a second opinion – they turn to the 39 pre-Christian books of the Bible filled with good, Old Testament-fashioned smiting and stoning and vengeance and wrath of God stuff.

Asheville’s Vote Against Project to rally opponents of N.C.’s Amendment 1
“A grass-roots organization, The Vote Against Project, is passing through Asheville on Saturday to offer a free photo shoot in which participants can ‘strike a pose against discrimination.’ The event happens 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Altamont Theatre at 18 Church St. downtown.”

Maybe the other Commission candidates don’t feel compelled to kneel at your lil’ ol’ feet? I mean, after all, you are working for one of their rivals, aren’t you? And it’s not like you’re a for real journalist or reporter or anything… I could just as well email them all and demand a response.
Please have your candidate Mike Fryar post here about his thoughts on Amendment One. I mean, he hasn’t made a statement, has he? And if your guy has made a statement, what is it? I’ll be looking forward to reading it right here, with your byline.
After YOUR candidate has posted, then I’ll be looking for the rest to follow suit.

I was visited today by Tracey DeBruhl today who volunteered to me that he believes in the separation of church and state and in this case he stands with the church and is supporting the amendment. I am not certain Tracey clearly understands the concept of the separation of church and state.
He seemed like he might be amenable to something similar to marriage that legally allowed same sex couples to have adoption, hospital visitation, inheritance and other rights but that they shouldn’t be allowed to call it marriage.
Of course the most fair thing to do is to get him to explain this to you himself.
