I double -dog DARE you to present a similar cartoon about Muslims or Jews. Oooooops, not allowed! “Progressives” only consider it okay to make fun of fundamentalists. By the way, I ain’t one- but I know cowardly unfairness when I see it…
Full disclosure- I am a skeptic of ALL religions, and of ideologues that fancy themselves above it all. You have your own prejudices, but you are too self-righteous to see.
Fundamentalists of major religions, especially Jewish, Christian & Muslim are generally intolerant, hateful, authoritarian, and frequently violent. Oh, did I mention delusional? Pity parties are just the a new sport of Xian fundamentalists, a ‘poor me’ persecution complex contrived to insulate believers from external criticism over religious practices and beliefs in conflict with an increasingly secular society. Think Creationism, fundamentalist editing of school text books, teaching about religion in California schools, homosexuality, abortion, etc. Poor me, the gay couple next door want to adopt a black orphan from socialist Peru. It’s an attack on decency and moral values. And the cartoonist is making fun of me!
Suetwo, what ever point your trying to make is bunk…unless you have proof, that is. I’ll draw anything, anytime. Try making a thought-out legitimate statement next time and I won’t think you’re a raving lunatic. Maybe.
Can’t speak for Mr. Cohen but I think he’ll rise to your empty challenge, suetwo. If he won’t, I’ll be happy to do it. And, i’ll put my real name on it. Will you?
I sort of think this cartoon is ridiculing muslims, too.
Its drawing the parallel lines of irrational, violent islam and irrational, violent christianity. Judaism could be included too, except that fundamentalist jews aren’t usually making headlines for threats of violence against anyone that questions their prowess or authenticity, like xtians and muslims have been doing.
Basically, IMO, muslim extremist-like behavior and ideological structure exist all over the world under the guise of several different religions. Pointing out the scary rationales of one is equivalent to shining a light on all of them in the effort to reach a safe harbor in this sea of crazy religious nuts.
They go by many names but once you’ve removed yourself from the fray, one can see that they are all basically the same.
Yeah, I’m pretty much a skeptic of all religions, too. Including Judaism, of which I was born into but do not practice. And I have drawn quite a number of cartoons about the extremities the members of THAT tribe can exhibit.
And the cartoon does, implicitly, touch on Muslims as well as any other fundamentalist way of thought.
And while the idea of drawing a cartoon that ridicules a ridiculous action or way of thought (in my opinion) appeals to me greatly, I also have to “drive defensively” when it comes to my own health and well-being, or the health and well-being of anybody around me in the line of fire.
I don’t write the rules, but I have to be cognizant of how the way the game is played evolves and changes.
If and when Christians and Jews start killing cartoonists, then I will have to be a little more careful about what I draw about them. Maybe I can start signing my cartoons with a pseudonym…..
