That’s a dirty dirty song for a Sunday, Michael. But I’ll quote the lyrics that don’t appear to be about sex or intravenous drugs, but which I thought were humorous and apropos:

I said now Cecil’s got his new piece
He cocks it shoots it bang between three and four
He aims it at the sailor
He shoots him down dead on the floor
Oh you shouldn’t do that
Don’t you know you’ll hit the carpet
Don’t you know you’ll mess the carpet.

Sex? Who’s to say that when Lou Reed sings about being busy sucking on a ding dong, he doesn’t mean a Hostess Ding Dong? Better a Ding Dong than a chili dog outside the Tastee Freez, that’s what I say.

I love the story of how the recording engineer left the control room while VU recorded Sister Ray.

Too bad Lou Reed said: “The situation is a bunch of drag queens taking some sailors home with them, shooting up on smack and having this orgy when the police appear.”

Yeah, the engineer: “I don’t have time to listen to this. I’ll just hit record. Come get me when you’re done…”

Michael, are you saying there’s some allegory for the Buncombe Republicans here? I don’t get it…

I was looking for something snarky to say about that John Mellencamp song, but this guy said it best:

“John, I don’t know how to tell you this, but if you’re sucking on a chili dog, you may be eating it wrong.”

My personal favorite from White Light/White Heat:

Also, Beck’s Record Club’s version of “The Velvet Underground & Nico” is surprisingly good. His version of “Black Angel’s Death Song” is quite possibly one of the best VU covers I’ve ever heard.
