excuse me, it was five civilians, not five kids who were killed today. Yesterday, it was 12 civilians, and last Friday it was five civilians…. that we know about.
Apparently, it was filmed in old Winston-Salem. According to the credits, the music was produced by a Christian rock duo out of Charlotte, but performed by the R&B singer Chris Brown. I don’t know if that’s a joke, or what, but it sure sounds like him.
The founders’ vision of the sovereign citizen has been replaced via “a long train of abuses and usurpations” to return we the people to the status of “subjects” under a king. (an elected one) “we” didn’t kill civilians in Afghanistan, that was our “elected” rulers’ decision, although willing collaborators in uniform (the king’s men) believed it was in “our” national interest to do so. Read the Declaration of Independence, you will discover some things are very similar now.
weird… it’s obviously a pretty high budget undertaking for a comedy video. that does not sound at all like chris brown, btw. trust me, I know my commercial hip hop.
You’re right, Laura. It’s pretty high budget for it to be just a joke. A couple of the actors like the lead guy are professionals, with long list of film credits, and the production values are pretty high for a youtube video. Not sure where the “comedy” is, though…
According to the credits, it was conceived by two political science professors with ties to Soomo, one in Florida, one in California. A quick google check suggests that a fair percentage of the people involved are evangelical Christians.
I think it’s likely that this will be picked up by TeaBaggers as an anthem. I find the whole thing disturbing.
After surfing the blogs that are commenting on this, I have a suspicion that the point of this thing may have been to drum up attention for the academic web-publishing business of Soomo. You know, put out a viral video that leads back to your website, get people talking about new ways of teaching American history, etc., and Voila.
Darken Down? Although that sounds a little racist for some reason.
I just don’t see what the big deal is with the video, Barry. It wasn’t all teabaggy or anything, and if it makes the remarkable story of American independence a little more relevant to people who would otherwise not feel connected to stuffy old textbook history, that’s a good thing, right?
It’s cool to realize that the Revolutionaries of ’76 were mostly a bunch of guys our age: Madison was 25, Hancock was 39, Sam Adams was 54, his cousin John was 41, Washington was 44, Jefferson was 33, John Jay was 31, Tom Paine was 39, and Hamilton was just a kid at 21.
I rather liked the video, especially seeing “Old Ben” rocking out! (I think he would have approved, given his satirical streak…) Didn’t really see anything pro-”Tea-Party” about it, in fact, saw it as showing that the real Tea Party is pretty far from the modern day posers calling themselves that. Today’s “Tea-Party” crowd are more of the Bob Roberts types… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2uWcukaSpg
Nice! I get four thumbs down for asking?! This place rocks!
Barry. On being scared of clowns. I know what you mean. I am one. Professionally I mean. I performed at a school once for a kindergarten kid’s birthday party. I made my normal shy entrance and introduced myself. All the kids loved it except one. After about a minute of fun with kids laughing, the one doubter kid started crying. It was a chain reaction. In a matter of seconds, I had twenty screaming kids, fearing for their lives. “Oh no! Johnny knows something we don’t! Run for your lives!”

This video creeps me out. What does anybody know about this outfit, Soomo Publishing? They are based right here in River City:

Well, I was talking about the video being awesome in its own very odd way (yes, it’s classified as a comedy video).
If you think this is a little too USA Number One! then I have a different link for you. The Seven Big Bads.

I blame Michael.

Thumb bombs are better than underwear bombs, which I only bring up because the word “underwear” is funny to me. Yes, I am twelve.
February 16th, 2010 at 9:51 pm
underpants!! underpants!!!
Calling it underwear means the terrorists win.

“wow, who is throwing all the thumb bombs?”
those would be the people who prefer America the Fantasy to America the Reality (or, for some folks in this world – America the NIGHTMARE)

Good move, Ben Franklin. Do not fly a kite while playing an electric guitar.
