Cecil and I were fancying up our feet and doing a dance on the steps of City Hall as part of a promotional fundraising video for Our Voice.
Our VOICE is currently seeking men who are willing to “walk the walk†and take a stand against sexual violence. We are recruiting men to be in a promotional video which will be filmed February 2nd – 5th.
If you would like to show the community that you support Our VOICE’s efforts to prevent sexual violence and promote your business at the same time, please contact Robin Payne at (828) 713-9281.
We’ll provide the shoes, you provide the dance moves!
Good question, Ralph. Maybe it’s an experiment in ‘cross-hobbling’. You know, make it fashionable for men to wear stupid shoes, and then they won’t be able to chase women as easily? I don’t know…
It’s for a promotional video to help with fundraising, Ralph. You know you wanna see me and Cecil dance down the City Hall steps to the strains of ‘Walk Like A Man’.
Really? “Walk Like a Man”? I mean, I get it. Men dressing up as ladies for a good cause is a time-honored American tradition, and kudos for keeping the flame alive. (There’s a suggestive pun in there that I choose not to acknowledge.)
This type of event is the “walk a mile in my shoes” kind of thing, Ralph. It is all in fun- and Gordon, click your heels together…- but is intended to bring awareness to “real men” don’t choose sexual violence as a means to control their pathetic universe.
Thanks to Gordon and Cecil for helping us out with our promotional video for our event. The “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” is taking place on Saturday April 24th in downtown Asheville.
This is the International Men’s March Against Rape, Sexual Assault, and Gender Violence. Having men wear women’s shoes and allowing them to literally “walk a mile” is bringing them to the table to raise awareness about an issue that effects everyone – not just women.

But “Walk Like a Man”? Très cliché. “Lady Godiva’s Operation” by The Velvet Underground is a much better song for a man to prance around in high heels to.
Better yet, how about “Goodbye Horses” by Q. Lazzarus?

Ralph Roberts says:
“Well, yes. Who wouldn’t?
Is it too much to ask for flowers behind one ear and a tasteful but colorful tutu?”
Is it too much ask Ralph himself to participate in the walk? Or is he not “man enough” to endure a little pain to stop a lot of pain?

Says Ralph Roberts: “real men contribute in ways that do not hurt their feet, but thanks for asking.”
Sorry Ralph. “Real” men (and women) ignore the pain to help another, and they don’t mock how other’s make their contribution.
