B Dems

By

The Buncombe County Democratic Party just unveiled their slick new website — and it’s a real testament to just how much they appreciate the role of New Media in the game of winning elections.

It’s not only pretty, but it’s got lots of nifty stuff inside. I especially like the Elected Officials Page — I just couldn’t help but compare it to the Carolina Stompers website …uh, I mean the Buncombe County Republican Party’s Elected Officials Page.

(Well, at least y’all still have Bill Russell. At least for now.)

Only a partisan sees B.O. as “change” instead of a continuation of the bankers’ last puppet regime.

It’s great, though it all looks awfully familiar to me…

That’s hilarious how much it looks like the white house site…

After the next election they might be changing it…

Oh, come on. There’s a Democratic President, whose volunteers have stuck around to work within the Democratic Party, and so it’s probably not that odd that a county party website should look like the White House website. Call me a partisan, but as someone who occasionally gets paid for design work, it’s as much about stealing with taste (and being able to execute what you steal successfully) as anything else.

What’s remarkable is that it seems to have better design values than the state party website. Kudos to the Buncombe folks.

Jim,

Why such a sourpuss all the time? If one is trying to attract people to one’s cause, don’t forget old attracting flies argument.

My guess is that Jim thinks it’s foolish for local Democrats to associate themselves with Obama. He may be right – I’m one of those people who thinks that Democrats need to run on a more Alan Grayson, populist-type platform this year, or November is going to be one glum month.

But that has nothing to do with design. The county party site works, it’s easy to navigate, it’s attractive. For the couple hundred local volunteers who might use it, it’s perfect.

And my guess is that it wasn’t stealing per se, even in the design sense. There’s probably some sort of design-your-local-website toolkit that the DNC is providing to local groups.

I prefer the Dennis Kucinich model of Democrats, while I don’t agree with some of his positions at least I know he is not lying or promoting an unwanted agenda through stealth unlike our current president (billion dollar bailouts to banks, mandating payment to insurance industry, continuing to promote the NAFTA disaster, Chicago carbon exchange carbon trading derivatives scam, war expansion etc) However if local Democrats want to associate themselves with the Obama/Rahm Emmanuel model good luck to you.

I guess my take is that we’re all discovering that any progress at this point is going to require massive bribes to corporations. That’s the kind of country we live in. Call me clueless, but I prefer that to the alternative in which nothing improves, and yet the bribery continues.

I have my more cynical moments, but on a good day, Obama suggests to me someone fighting on a dozen fronts at once – chiefly looking to buy time, and having to make some truly horrendous compromises and sacrifices to make any progress at all.
