Down and Dirty

By

Three-time breast cancer survivor, Firedoglake’s Jane Hamsher, is targeting Sen. Joe Lieberman’s wife. Hadassah Lieberman is a “global ambassador” for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Hamsher has publicly asked the organization to have her step down. In light of her husband’s efforts to kill health care reform, Hamsher claims Mrs. Lieberman’s connection to the organization is “counterproductive.” The organization has refused. Hamsher responded by asking celebrities who offer their names and time for the organization to demand Mrs. Lieberman step down.

Democratic Sens. Patrick Leahy (VT) and Sheldon Whitehouse (RI) are in the WaPo today talking about their Health Insurance Industry Antitrust Enforcement Act bill removing the industry’s antitrust exemption.

In the wake of Lieberman’s demand that Sen. Harry Reid “take out the Medicare buy-in. You’ve got to forget about the public option,” Obama transition team leader John Podesta told USA Today, “I suspect musty folders on reconciliation got dusted off this morning.”

I’ll believe it when I see it.

And every major news outlet has records of Obama’s flip-floppery on health care reform. (oops, I meant health “insurance” reform- the “care” was taken out before this exercise in kabuki theater even started.

This crappy result was ordained months ago, and all this “activity” has just been designed to make us think the politicians were really even trying to pass a useful (for regular folks) bill.

Yeah, I agree. I just hope it doesn’t take the Democratic Party – or whatever progressive party forms out of this debacle – another fourteen years to get to the point where they can do something worthwhile again. I don’t think we’ve got that much time.
