Anyone know if these numbers show an improvement when compared to the national average.

I know we rank relatively low in the household income bracket.

  • 35.8% of Buncombe County residents were low-income in 2008, meaning their incomes were less than twice the federal poverty level ($21,200 for a family of four in 2008)

Wages & Income

The 2008 Living Income Standard

  • A working family in Buncombe County with 1 adult and 2 children needs to earn, on average, a total of $34,392 annually to afford basic living expenses in the county. This total is 195.4% of the 2008 federal poverty level for a family of three ($17,600)
