Friday Open Thread: Good
By“Easter, a Christian festival, embodies many pre-Christian traditions. The origin of its name is unknown. Scholars, however, accepting the derivation proposed by the 8th-century English scholar St. Bede, believe it probably comes from Eastre, the Anglo-Saxon name of a Teutonic goddess of spring and fertility, to whom was dedicated a month corresponding to April. Her festival was celebrated on the day of the vernal equinox; traditions associated with the festival survive in the Easter rabbit, a symbol of fertility, and in colored easter eggs, originally painted with bright colors to represent the sunlight of spring, and used in Easter-egg rolling contests or given as gifts.”

You mean the Easter Bunny wasnt there to greet Jesus when he came out of his tomb and give him an egg? Man do I ever feel out of touch.

You mean the Easter Bunny wasnt there to greet Jesus …
actually … “Stan the bunny was forced to find a new home after the Romans put the crosses right through his living room claiming imminent domain rules of 354 BC … in retaliation Stan organized an underground movement (aka BUM) enlisting all bunnies to steel eggs every year and hide them after first making them colorful so that they are not lost souls forever ….

Thank you for setting that straight for me Kai. You have to sift through a lot of rewritten history to find the truth sometimes.

Is Good Friday the only instance of irony in the entire xtian bible? Or maybe there were others that were lost in translation over the years, such as Lot having a sodium allergy…

Not just irony, but sometimes out and out cover-up. For instance, it is becoming more and more accepted that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a small dinosaur, not a donkey. Here’s proof:

PS: I indeed made my spring street performing debut last night and plan a follow-up this afternoon.
