And Then There Were Four
ByVermont today became the fourth state to legalize gay marriage — and the first to do so with a legislature’s vote. The Burlington Free Press reports that Gov. Jim Douglas’ veto of a bill allowing gays and lesbians to marry was overturned by a 23-5 vote in the state Senate and 100-49 in the House.
Under Vermont law, two-thirds of each chamber had to vote for override.
Vermont becomes the fourth state to permit same-sex marriage, joining Massachusetts, Connecticut and Iowa. Their approval of gay marriage came from the courts.

An incredibly moment where Iowa Senate Majority Leader Michael Gronstal slaps down an attempt to ban gay marriage in his state. Moving and poignant.
