Meet our newest Blue Dog: Kay Hagan

We’ll see what comes of this, but Sen. Evan Bayh (DINO – IN) has been working for years to get “moderate” senators to show more cohesion in opposing the Democratic party’s, um, “liberal” wing. And as of yesterday, Kay Hagan has joined Bayh’s “Moderate Dems Working Group.”

If you’re not happy about this, you’re not alone. The Center for American Progress is asking people to call Blue Dogs and their Senate counterparts and tell them you’d rather they backed the administration, thank you very much. There’s a good chance that Senator Hagan is doing this for political cover – she’s a co-sponsor of the Employee Free Choice Act, and has been solidly with the administration on most things so far. But it might be a good idea to call her, thank her for her vote in favor of the stimulus, her work on EFCA, and her support for the budget – and then let her know that you’d like her to continue to stand with the Democratic mainstream.
