Marriage, Redefined
ByIf you hear anyone say, “I believe marriage is defined as between a man and a woman”, tell them to grab their Mirriam-Websters.

Whether religious groups choose to read the dictionary is up to them, but the government has no business telling people in love that they can’t get married. The definition has changed.
Hat tip to Pam’s House Blend.

Definitions often change. One of my least favorite forms of argument, often seen in political forums, is “this word is based on the root for “xxxx” which means… ” Although I myself have been know to do it, usually what follows is sheer crackpottery. A close cousin is to draw a modern interpretation of an ancient symbol, or an interpretation of something that wasn’t meant to be a symbol at all, to conclude that “the Illuminati are laughing at us from their catacombs.”
The entire sexual hangup situation seems to be rooted in monotheistic religion, and probably in the specific phobias of certain early Christians probably including Saul of Tarsus, Saint Peter, and Augustine of Hippo. Among non-monotheistic people, homophobia has generally been a non-issue. See, for instance, Two-Spirits among American Indian tribes.

Irrelevant, as Webster’s is run by the liberal cabal.

This is great. It brought tears to my eyes. But it is true we create meaning for whatever words we want to. What is a tree’s definition of marriage? It may be a farce question. But who is creating the farce? humans or the tree?
Anyway, it just shows how far we have came since the days before Harvey Milk. Thanks again Mr. Milk. You have done a generation good!

Reading from license on to licentious is amusing.
Again though, aside from financial and social stigmas, why do people need to get married?

i didn’t n e e d to get married when i did, but no one questioned my right to do so. that’s the point. why in the world should anyone care who i married and what sex either of us is? does anyone need to know what sex i am to be ok with my marriage? who’s in charge of making sure anyway? i don’t recall any verification of mine or my partner’s sex when we applied for the license. should someone who’s undergone a sex change operation have the right to marry? what about a hermaphrodite? if YOU dont’ want to marry someone of YOUR same sex: DON’T.

I agree Mortise. I am in favor of abolishing all marriages and eliminating all tax benefits. BUT, it that is not going to happen, equal treatment of all people must occur.
