Extended Saturday Early Voting Hours Likely in Buncombe
ByRALEIGH, N.C. — The State Board of Elections ordered Thursday that all 100 counties in North Carolina must keep early voting sites open for an extra four hours this weekend unless local officials unanimously decide it’s unnecessary.
In an emergency meeting, the board unanimously agreed to extend Saturday early voting hours to 5 p.m. The meeting came after Mecklenburg and Guilford counties sought permission to keep the sites from closing at 1 p.m. as scheduled.
The Republicans on the board apparently were afraid that Democrats would be selective about which counties would take this step, so the two parties compromised. Hence the requirement for a unanimous decision by a county BOE to close at 1 pm.
This means we’ll almost certainly have an extra four hours to vote on Saturday. And that means there will be almost a full day’s overlap between the beginning of the Obama campaign’s final GOTV push and the end of the early voting period. The RNC “72-hour Plan†has begun early in WNC. This afternoon at the West Asheville Branch Library, three GOP out-of-state greeter-volunteers appeared about 1:45 p.m.
Clean cut, they appear not to be professionals, but “passionate partisans.†Their sudden, coordinated appearance means the GOP has called up reinforcements to challenge Democrats in the swing state of North Carolina during the last few days of early voting and into Election Day. More are likely to appear at other early voting sites Friday.

As a former runner I know that a sure way to lose a race is to look around to see what your opponent is up to – just find a way to pull out all stops in the last 4 days – don’t look for me on the internets in the next 4 days I am working my ass off in Brevard and then Obama better deliver or else! …. [Sorry to all my Green Party Friends, but NC is in play and 60 Senators is a possibility, so I say give the Dems a filibuster proofed Congress for then Obama & Co. have no excuses to not deliver on the "New Deal" {I might get kicked out of the Green Party for writing this, oh well
