Friday Open Thread: I’m 34 Years Younger Than John McCain

By Gordon Smith

Today’s my birthday, Hooligans, and I’m celebrating with disc golf, friends, work, chinese food, and a little Tropic Thunder. What’s on your minds today?

(oh yeah, and john mccain read a speech last night explaining how he’s going to change washington and stuff. i learned at a dfa training that there are only two campaign slogans: stay the course or it’s time for a change. mccain saw that the former wasn’t going to get him into the white house, so, despite mimicking all the policies that got us to where we are, he’s running as the hero who can heroically change that which he has created. he’s running against himself, really. i find it bizarre.)

Still can not get over how hateful the republican convention was. I have never in my life seen so much war mongering. I thought 2004 was bad, but that convention did not move me the way this one did. I have been debating on how much time I would put in to helping Obama get elected. He was not my first or second choice in the primary. He has grown on me a great deal. I am compelled to make sure that McCain/Palin do not win.

The opening 30 seconds of the 9/11 tribute last night foreshadowed a war with Iran. There was not a speech all week given by the republicans that offered anything other than how righteous and patriotic their candidates and family are due to the fact that they served in war and are ready to lead us into war. I am sorry, but that frightens me. They are obsessed and seemingly dangerous.

On our good friend Gordon’s birthday, please take the time to remind yourself that there is love in this world. Also take time to remind your friends and loved ones to not let the propaganda fool them.
