Can You Believe This Guy?

By

Stewart Coleman is the poster child for arrogant developers. It’s mind-boggling that despite all of the opposition he plans to build his condominium high rise on the doorstep of City Hall and in the park that George W. Pack gave to the “public forever”.

AC-T: “Boundaries for the controversial Parkside Condominium project were marked Wednesday, indicating construction plans are moving ahead despite a court case that could delay or derail the project.

Parkside developer Stewart Coleman said the boundaries were marked with spray paint so fences can be put up around a construction site.

Time to remind the Commissioners that we’re still here waiting for them to commit to stopping this project. The resolution they passed on June 24th said that they would take responsibility for reacquiring the land. They have yet to meaningfully and forcefully inform Mr. Coleman that he will not build on that parcel.

Email them today. It takes five minutes. nathan.ramsey@buncombecounty.org, commissioner@davidgantt.com, bill.stanley@buncombecounty.org, carol.peterson@buncombecounty.org, davidy@fugazync.com

Asheville On The Ground was there:

Stewart Coleman and Tom Israel stepped out of the big black SUV and strode over to the park in front of City Hall on Wednesday. They had business at the Magnolia today.

Armed with a spray can of orange paint, a blueprint map of the contested parkland, and a measuring tape, the two proceeded to pace out the area, measuring along the wall of the Hayes Hopson building and then, after locating the stakes, Mr. Coleman whipped out his can of paint and circled each of them, like a target.

Dear Chairman Ramsey and County Commissioners,

I believe that there is good governance and bad governance.

I believe that there is good capitalism and bad capitalism.

Parkside truly brings both issues to the fore.

Buncombe County government has governed poorly in regard to Parkside.

Stewart Coleman has shown us the truly ugly side of capitalism in regard to Parkside.

County government needs to correct its mistakes by whatever means necessary, including the use of eminent domain.

It is no longer a matter of legacy for current commissioners. You will lose if you let it go. You will lose if millions are spent on eminent domain legalities; but, at least, you will have done the right thing–admitted your own lack of due diligence in the original matter with the courage then to make it right.

Respectfully,

Clarence Young

A reply from Bill Stanley to Elaine Lite:

“ELAINE,

MYPOSITION HAS NOT CHANGED. IT IS NOT PARKLAND, AND WAS NOT SOLD ILLEGALLY.

I BELIEVE THE JUDGE’S DECEISION WILL CLARIFY THAT.

IF IT DOES NOT THEN I WILL HAVE TO REEVALUATE MY THINKING.

Bill Stanley

A scary thing is that Commissioner Stanley is more computer savvy than John McCain.

Looks like the Judge wants Bill to reevaluate:
