Parkside Opposition
ByAfter introducing the press conference today, I was asked by many attendees to post the list of opposition to the Parkside project. Ask and ye shall gitchasum.
This is a list of groups who have publicly opposed this project in some form or fashion:
The Asheville Downtown Association
The Asheville Tree Commission
Asheville’s Democracy For America
People Advocating Real Conservancy
Mountain Voices Alliance
Buncombe County Democratic Party
The Editorial Board of the Asheville Citizen-Times
Buncombe County Green Party
Asheville City Council
Buncombe County Commissioners in a recent resolution
Western North Carolina Alliance
The Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County
Pack Square Conservancy
Coven Oldenwilde
And there are over 7,000 signatures on the PARC/Mountain Voices Alliance calling for the use of eminent domain.
Great event. Great turnout. You’ll read all about it at Mtn. X, I’m sure. Post the link here when it pops up, k?

Mountain X covered on the scene
- – - – -
I work at a wonderful poetry company that shares the joy of live theatrical poetry with students of all ages all over the world. It is one of the most rewarding jobs I’ve ever had the pleasure of doing.
Today at work I stumbled across this poem of his:
Yesterday’s Magnolia
by Brod Bagert
I walked outside this morning
And saw a strange man climbing my tree
How nice that he would like
To do the same fun things as me.
But when I heard his chain saw growl
The tears rushed down my face,
He was about to use it
To chop down my favorite place.
I yelled, “Wait!
Don’t cut another branch!”
Too late.
The only tree that I could climb
And now… there’s just a hole.
I feel so sad and angry
But I don’t know who to blame.
No matter what you do in this life…
Nothing ever stays the same.

Coleman was on the news last night (WLOS). He has given the go ahead to cut down the tree – anytime after 35 days from now. That would mean he cranks up the chainsaw sometime around the middle-end of September – roughly a month before the election.
What timing!
September – Magnolia gets the timber
November – Peterson and Stanley get the axe!

Oh, I’m sure I can summarize:
Gantt: Gosh, no, I never thought there would be such an uproar. Did I mention we made a generous offer to Coleman off the table with no proof whatsoever? And how I’m singlehandedly trying to rectify the mistake of those other guys on the Board? Gosh that Coleman’s a dick.
