Now that the dust has settled…

By

…I guess it’s safe for our own local Democratic super-duper delegate to support Barack Obama. Via the Bombay Asheville Citizen-Times:

Superdelegate Carol Peterson has at last made her choice.

With Sen. Hillary Clinton’s concession to Sen. Barack Obama, the Fairview resident she’ll cast her ballot at the Democratic National Convention in August for Obama because he had the most pledged delegates at the end of the contest.

Peterson, a Buncombe County commissioner, said what most motivated her decision was her desire for party unity.

“I’m for the candidate that has the strongest backing from the Democratic Party, and obviously that’s Sen. Obama,” she said.

Obviously.

Has she decided whether to back Democrat David Gantt in the Parkside debate or whether she’ll line up behind Gantt’s opponent for Chair in November, Republican Nathan Ramsey?

She will line up behind Gantt her party’s candidate. That is how she roles.

Bryan,

That makes two votes at Commission then. Where does the third come from? Ramsey is Ramsey. Stanley is Stanley. And Young appears to be playing the “there’s nothing we can do” game.

Thoughts?

Young has nothing to loose and nothing to gain. It comes down to if he wants to run for Mayor of Asheville or something else local. I would say that if Wanda and Gantt find a solution that they are all willing to pay for than Young will fall in line with Gantt. The Dems need to give Gantt a big win he can use to trump Ramsey. Looking at the primaries, making city voters happy means big votes. I like and respect David Gantt a great deal. We served together on the Airport. I think that he would make a great Chair, but he has yet to differentiate himself from Nathan.
