Joe Lieberman with pectorals, so to speak. Mumpower is turning his back, sort of, on the GOP as currently configured, but is making a smart play to the libertarian wing of the party, which I think is very much in play this cycle --- and could be up for grabs for the Democrats in NC-11 if they were running a sharper candidate. (Ron Paul is trying to do something like this in the upcoming Idaho GOP Presidential Primary). I don't care how large Shuler's war chest is, Mumpower's outspoken (appearance of) independence likely will resonate with the district more powerfully than Shuler's mealy Blue Dog triangulation.
