Voting Advice for the Democratic Primary
ByHere’s the voting guide. [Ed: also available in PDF for download/printing here.]
Thanks to everyone who’s written in to tell me how helpful this voting guide has been. I’ll sticky this at the top of the blog until Tuesday evening, so folks who are just showing up can find it without any hassles. High fives to everyone who voted early, and stern, expectant looks to everyone who’s considering skipping it altogether.
Remember that there’s going to be a big primary night party at Asheville Brewing Company on Coxe Ave. starting at 7pm. We’ll be watching the returns for all the races. See you there.
If y’all know about candidate parties or have trenchant info of any variety, leave it here for the world to see.

Why not start your election night carousing by listening to a talk about local solutions to a global problem that few politicians want to touch with a ten foot pole? It’s between Jack of the Wood and ABC.

I endorse Jim’s suggestion.
This needs to be a transition county.

I feel compelled to post the following for those who might not have voted yet. It’s about Bev Purdue and Civil Rights. Judge for yourselves.
Perdue was one of only two Democrats in the entire General Assembly to oppose a law giving the State Bureau of Investigation more power to crack down on hate groups like the KKK. The state’s two largest newspapers, the Raleigh News & Observer and the Charlotte Observer, say it’s true.

And there’s more. Bev Perdue also “gutted” a bill that would have made it easier for African-American candidates to secure their party’s nomination without a primary runoff. The legislation was the top priority of the legislative black caucus.
After Perdue’s move, black caucus chairman Rep. Mickey Michaux, Jr. said, “I think what Beverly Perdue did was a slap in the face of black people, if you want to know the truth.”
According to the News & Observer, “opposition to the primary runoff bill has been strongest among white Democrats in Eastern North Carolina. They fear it ultimately would result in more blacks winning Democratic nominations, but more Republicans winning general elections.”
It’s time for Bev Perdue to tell the truth about her record.
If this is what she does for human civil rights, what will she do on environmental issues?

Elaine,
She’s also getting endorsements from black leaders, so I’m not sure that her record is as stark as this vote makes it appear.
Here are a couple of .pdf links that tell a different story:

Gee, haven’t heard that one yet.
Elaine, it’s a bit disingenuous of you not to state that this was an email from Julie White of the Moore campaign, isn’t it?
Cuz you make it sound like you wrote it.

I voted at Hall Fletcher School around 1:30. Not much turnout – maybe 10 voters while I was there. A couple of people were out front handing out info for Holly Jones. No one else was there.

I did not ever claim to have written it. It was sent by a friend with the links to the article in the Observer and I passed it on just as an FYI for folks to consider. What’s with the hostile attitude?

Sorry, I didn’t mean to be hostile per se, but when using official campaign jargon it’s best to cite the source or use quotes, IMO.
I didn’t vote for Purdue based on her complicity with Easley’s lame duck leadership (for starters), but charges of being against civil rights are, again IMO, trumped up. I didn’t vote for Moore either, partly based on the horrible way he’s run his campaign.
