WNC Obamarama

The folks at WNC For Obama are doing some amazing things.

Like organizing dozens of people to canvass neighborhoods in South Carolina months before the primary there, raising money through house parties, having visibility events, and recruiting more and more people into the grassroots phenomenon that is the Barack Obama campaign. The following are taken from the latest newsletter.

“Jerry was out trimming a neighbor’s yard when he asked what we were selling. We told him about Obama and our efforts to get people to vote. He told us to go after the young people. He felt that his generation knew about politics but the younger ones weren’t interested at all. He asked us to start with these guys across the street:”

“Michael, on the left, and his friend listened to our story about why we support Barack. Michael filled out a voter registration form for the first time and his friend committed to voting for Barack!”

The WNC For Obama folks get together every Tuesday night at the Asheville Brewing Co. for Pizza! Beer! Obama!, a fun, informal gathering of Obama supporters and the Obama curious. This may be the most diverse political gathering in all of Asheville, and their enthusiasm is infectious. Check ‘em out.
