I think that Progressives would be well-served, at this point in our Party culture, to grow patience and to wrest control from the intransigent Old Guard. It's a real bitch sitting in those lousy meetings, accomplishing nothing week after week after week, being discounted and disregarded by people who know less than they ought. Carol Peterson is a great example of an Old Guard Republican who doesn't even begin to understand the depth of her ignorance to progressive issues. I'd be shocked to find myself at a meeting and have her lend my views any creedence whatsoever. I guess we'll eventually have to go to the stoopid meetings and bear with the patronage system until we can dismantle it. If the Old Guard wants to prevent its own irrelevancy and stagnation, they'd open the doors wide, acknowledge the amazing energy and innovation in the progressive movement, and say "let's join together to make this a better place." They won't, of course, because they're fat and happy. We're just discontented and disenfranchised, frustrated from too many years of being blown off by the people we now have to go sit next to in these godawful meetings.
