Hey, fellow progressives: are we locked out or are we just not walking in the door?

By Drama Queen

Henderson County Democratic Party Chair Eva Ritchey feels marginalized by the Democratic Party. Why? Because she’s a woman? Somewhat. Because she’s progressive? Definitely. But mostly because she’s of the 43% of pro-life Democrats that the party doesn’t want to talk about.

Now, that’s all another argument. But, what I found fascinating and want you to consider was her analysis of how progressives marginalize themselves. Check it out:

She also has some fine words about inclusion for the 11th district democratic party leadership: “If leadership comes only from one area or one group of people, when we get to the next election, we will be hurting ourselves.”

These two videos are just a sampling of series of conversations with the always provocative Eva I’ve posted over at BlueNC. (It’s a direct link to the post so you won’t have to wade through the cartoons . . . )

We’re “in an orbit outside of the Democratic Party” in large part because we were disinvited by the Old Guard.

I think that Progressives would be well-served, at this point in our Party culture, to grow patience and to wrest control from the intransigent Old Guard. It’s a real bitch sitting in those lousy meetings, accomplishing nothing week after week after week, being discounted and disregarded by people who know less than they ought.

Carol Peterson is a great example of an Old Guard Republican who doesn’t even begin to understand the depth of her ignorance to progressive issues. I’d be shocked to find myself at a meeting and have her lend my views any creedence whatsoever.

I guess we’ll eventually have to go to the stoopid meetings and bear with the patronage system until we can dismantle it.

If the Old Guard wants to prevent its own irrelevancy and stagnation, they’d open the doors wide, acknowledge the amazing energy and innovation in the progressive movement, and say “let’s join together to make this a better place.”

They won’t, of course, because they’re fat and happy. We’re just discontented and disenfranchised, frustrated from too many years of being blown off by the people we now have to go sit next to in these godawful meetings.

I, for one, am excited that the annoying comment bug we were having during testing seems to be fixed. :)

Maybe she feels marginalized because of her lack of good sense…I would if I were her…

Democrats have ruined America, it seems…

“So, in the end, which is more helpful? Calling it what it IS: Socialism…OR…Calling it what it can never be: Progressive?”

Absolutely brilliant quote by Mr. Tim Peck of Asheville.
