Sean Dalton Makes a Move…
By
Sean Dalton, former Chief of Staff for former Congressman Charles Taylor, has moved on. He’s waved goodbye to Charles Taylor’s right wing stances in favor of the even wingnuttier positions of his new boss, Rep. Phil Gingrey, M.D. (R-GA), who once threw a party called “Medicare Part D: Unprecedented Success Event”.
Representative Gingrey Sponsored “H.R.4013 : To amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to prohibit the approval of any drug that infringes the right to life, and for other purposes.” He couldn’t find any co-sponsors for this one.
He was on board with the frightfully magnetic Marilyn Musgrave‘s attempt to codify bigotry into the Constitution in the form of the Anti-marriage amendment.
This next great bill couples the chic of immigrant-hating with the sleaze of voter disenfranchisement, “H.R.4174 : To amend the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 to require an individual to provide proof that the individual is a citizen of the United States as a condition of registering to vote in elections for Federal office, and for other purposes.”
He’s against organized labor, against the French, against citizenship for folks born in this country, against choice, but he is pro-Dalton, who cut his teeth on the Appropriations Committee with Taylor.
Dr. Congressman Gingrey co-sponsored legislation in 2003 “Condemn[ing] the failure of Iraqi authorities to treat prisoners of war in strict conformity with Geneva Convention.” Yet he manages to skip any efforts to have the Bush administration abide by the same rules while at the same time cosponsoring “H.CON.RES.310 : Requiring the posting of the Ten Commandments in the Capitol.” and “H.RES.153 : Recognizing the public need for fasting and prayer in order to secure the blessings and protection of Providence for the people of the United States”.
And should you have any doubts about Rep. Gingrey’s tendency to the fringe of the right wing of the Republican party try this one on for size –
From his website: “Fighting the War on Terror means preemptively disarming those leaders who harbor terrorists and weapons of mass destruction [unlike Iraq - ed.]. It means giving our military, law enforcement, and intelligence organizations the tools they need to keep us safe [do away with civil liberties - ed.]. It means strengthening our borders and doing away with immigration loopholes that let terrorists travel freely in our country [All those mexican terrorists will destroy our way of life? - ed.].”
Sean, you’ve leaped from the scandalous frying pan of Charles Taylor to the wingnut fire of Phil Gingrey. Scrutiny Hooligans want you to know that we’ll keep you company during your tenure with Dr. Gingrey and that, should you ever desire to get behind a Congressman worth your considerable talent, we’ll be in your corner.
